West Nairobi School


I will begin teaching the Fall of 2011 at West Nairobi School in Karen, Kenya. 


SCHOOL: WNS is operated by the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS), and offers a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 North American education in a Christian environment for families in the Nairobi area. Founded in 1996, the school is a accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) 


STUDENTS: Students range in age from 4 through 18: Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school's intent is to have a widely diverse student body with a strong mix of cultures and races. The enrollment last year was approximately 240 students coming from 19 countries. Approximately 30% are American, 40% Kenyan 15% Korea with the remaining 15% coming from Australia, Britain, Canada, Ethiopia, Germany, Holland, Honduras, Japan, Korea, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa and Sudan. 


SCHOOL CALENDAR: The 180 day school year is divided into two semesters, each containing two quarters. School opens in early August and continues through the end of May. The daily schedule is 8:20 am to 3:25 pm, Monday through Friday.


LOCATION: WNS is located in Karen, a suburb of Nairobi. By road, travel North West away from the city center on Ngong Road, 4.7 km past Dagoretti Roundabout, turning right into Miotoni Road. Proceed 1 Km on Miotoni Road and turn right into Miotoni Lane. West Nairobi School is just past the first corner.


MY CLASSES: I will be teaching 9th grade Biology, 10th grade Chemistry, 11th/12th grade Anatomy and Physiology, 11th/12th grade Physics, and 9th grade Health Education.
